Ignacio Bayón Mariné, former Minister of Energy and Industry in the Adolfo Suárez government from 1980 to 1982, has passed away at the age of 80, as reported by the Real Academia de Gastronomía, of which he was a member.
Bayón, a PhD in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, held other public positions such as lawyer of the State Council and the Francoist Cortes, as well as Subsecretary of Housing in 1975.
Furthermore, he had an extensive career in the business sector given his tenure on the boards of companies such as Nestlé, Canal Plus, Repsol, Telefónica, FCC, National Institute of Industry (INI), and the Official Credit Institute (ICO).
It is worth noting that he served as president of Citroën, Renfe, the publishing house Espasa, Realia, and the food group Omsa.
In 2015, Bayón assumed the presidency of the Foundation for Drug Addiction Assistance (FAD), an institution founded by one of his colleagues in Suárez’s cabinet, Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado.
