Ignacio Bayón Mariné, former ⁣Minister of Energy and ​Industry in the Adolfo Suárez government from ⁤1980 to​ 1982,⁣ has passed away at the age of 80, as reported by the Real Academia de Gastronomía, of which ⁢he was a member.

Bayón, a PhD in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid,⁢ held other public positions such as lawyer​ of the State Council and‍ the Francoist Cortes, as well as Subsecretary of Housing in ⁣1975.

Furthermore, he ⁢had an extensive career in the business ⁣sector given his tenure on the boards of companies such ⁣as Nestlé, Canal Plus, Repsol, Telefónica,​ FCC, National Institute⁢ of ​Industry (INI), and the Official ‌Credit Institute‌ (ICO).

It is worth noting that he served as president of Citroën, Renfe, the publishing house Espasa, Realia, ‍and the food ⁣group Omsa.

In 2015, Bayón assumed the ‍presidency of the Foundation for Drug Addiction Assistance (FAD), an institution founded by one of his colleagues in Suárez’s cabinet, Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado.
