Repsol finalizes the construction of its largest solar plant in the United States
Repsol has completed the construction of Frye Solar, its largest photovoltaic plant to date, with a total installed capacity of 637 MW and 570 MW already in operation. Located in the United States, it is near the city of Kress, in Swisher County (Texas).
Building the Future
Frye Solar consists of almost a million solar panels. Repsol has already signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 89% of the production of this project, as part of its strategy to ensure profitability.
“The completion of our largest renewable installation in the United States to date is an important milestone that will contribute to Repsol’s commitment to becoming a net-zero emissions company by 2050,” said Federico Toro, Director of Low Carbon Generation Operations in North America.
Commitment to Renewable Energy
The installed and developing renewable capacity in Texas is 2,091 MW, including Frye (637 MW), Outpost (629 MW), and Pinnington (825 MW). Additionally, Repsol already generates renewable electricity at its plants in New Mexico, Jicarilla 1 and 2, with a total installed capacity of 125 MW and 20 MW of battery storage.
Investing in Sustainability
Repsol will invest between 3,000 and 4,000 million to organically develop its global project portfolio and aims to reach between 9,000 MW and 10,000 MW by 2027.
